Ukrainian lawmakers are set to vote on Yevhen Khmara as defence minister amid sweeping military and political leadership changes.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has submitted the nomination of former intelligence head Yevhen Khmara as the country's new defence minister to parliament, with lawmakers scheduled to vote on Wednesday alongside the confirmation of Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.

The political reshuffle follows the dismissal of former defence minister Mykhailo Fedorov, who has publicly raised concerns over governance and wartime corruption while advocating for national elections. Meanwhile, the newly appointed commander of the armed forces, Mykhailo Drapatyj, is reorganising military leadership structures to promote proven combat commanders and dismantle entrenched command hierarchies.
