Ukrainian lawmakers prepare to confirm Yevhen Khmara as defence minister amid a broad restructuring of military leadership and command structures.

Ukrainian lawmakers are preparing to vote on President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s nomination of former intelligence chief Yevhen Khmara as defence minister, alongside a confirmation vote for Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.

The leadership transition follows the dismissal of former defence minister Mykhailo Fedorov, who has publicly raised concerns over governance, corruption, and the potential need for national elections during the ongoing conflict with Russia.

Concurrently, newly appointed armed forces commander Mykhailo Drapatyj is advancing an extensive command overhaul. The restructuring seeks to dismantle internal patronage networks established under prior leadership and promote proven frontline commanders into senior strategic positions across Ukraine's military hierarchy.
