Ukraine faces widespread Russian strikes as diplomatic and military moves escalate

Russian forces launched a series of coordinated missile and drone attacks across Ukraine, targeting civilian infrastructure in Kyiv, Odesa, Chernihiv, and Kryvyi Rih. A strike on a shopping centre in Kryvyi Rih left at least 15 people dead and 130 injured. European Union Foreign Affairs Chief Kaja Kallas stated the attack "shows the depravity of Russia," while Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky asked UN Secretary-General António Guterres to "do everything to stop the war."

In response, Ukrainian drones targeted a major Lukoil refinery inside Russia. On the diplomatic front, the UK and France authorized local Ukrainian production of Scalp cruise missiles. Meanwhile, Italy reaffirmed its refusal to send troops or participate in multinational military maneuvers scheduled for October. Russian officials confirmed that prisoner exchange negotiations remain ongoing.
