Ukraine failed to intercept 28 Russian missiles amid ammunition shortages, as former commander Zaluzhnyi rejected NATO prospects and new army leadership takes charge.

Former Ukrainian commander-in-chief Valerii Zaluzhnyi, currently serving as ambassador to the United Kingdom, stated that Ukraine will never join NATO, citing the alliance's reliance on outdated tactics unsuited for modern warfare. His remarks coincided with a devastating Russian missile attack in which Ukrainian air defenses failed to intercept any of the 28 ballistic and anti-ship missiles fired, including Iskander and Zircon models. Citing severe shortages of Patriot system munitions, Ukrainian officials reported at least 17 deaths and 44 injuries in the Kyiv region.

In response to the air defense crisis, analysts suggested Ukraine may shift strategy to target Russian launch sites directly. Simultaneously, Ukrainian forces are undergoing leadership restructuring following the appointment of Mykhailo Drapatyi as the new army chief, who is overhauling internal command structures.
