Turkish rights groups released August gender-based violence figures as Siirt prosecutors brought charges against five suspects in a murder case.

Rights monitoring groups and media in Turkey have released monthly figures on gender-based violence, while prosecutors in Siirt advanced a high-profile homicide prosecution.

According to data from the We Will Stop Femicide Platform, 22 women were killed and 33 died under suspicious circumstances in August, with 55% of fatal attacks taking place in domestic settings. Independent portal Bianet reported that male violence resulted in at least 25 women killed and 71 injured during the same period.

Meanwhile, the Siirt 1st High Criminal Court accepted an indictment charging five suspects in connection with the October 2024 death of a mother of four. Prosecutors utilized cellular location logs, license plate recognition, and digital footprints to establish that the victim was murdered, implicating her former husband, former in-laws, and two other defendants.
