Rights groups released August 2026 femicide statistics in Turkey, while prosecutors in Siirt filed charges against five suspects in a 2024 murder case.

Turkish rights monitoring groups and independent news outlets released August 2026 figures on gender-based violence, reflecting minor discrepancies due to differing methodologies.

According to the We Will Stop Femicide Platform, 22 women were killed and 33 died under suspicious circumstances during August, with over half murdered inside their homes. Independent media monitoring by Bianet documented at least 25 women killed and 71 injured during the same monthly period.

Concurrently, legal authorities in Siirt announced that the 1st High Criminal Court accepted an indictment charging five individuals in connection with the October 2024 death of a mother of four. Prosecutors solved the case using digital footprints, phone records, and surveillance data, filing charges against the victim's former husband, former brother-in-law, former father-in-law, and two additional suspects.
