Trump hosts China's Xi in Washington for broad security and trade talks

US President Donald Trump welcomed Chinese President Xi Jinping to Washington for a three-day state visit, marking Xi's first official trip to the United States in over a decade. Trump broke protocol by greeting the Chinese leader directly at his aircraft upon arrival.

According to official briefings from Beijing and reports citing the Chinese Foreign Ministry, bilateral discussions centered on pressing international security matters, including the war in Ukraine, Middle East instability, and the Korean Peninsula. The summit followed earlier talks between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who urged Washington to encourage Beijing to leverage its influence over Moscow toward de-escalation.
