A temporary local ceasefire brokered by US First Lady Melania Trump has taken effect in Oleshky, Ukraine, to allow humanitarian evacuations of elderly residents.

A temporary local ceasefire brokered through mediation by US First Lady Melania Trump has taken effect in the Russian-occupied town of Oleshky in Ukraine's Kherson region. The operational pause began at 4:00 a.m. Moscow time on October 27 to allow for the humanitarian evacuation of elderly civilians trapped near the front line along the Dnipro River.

According to statements from the White House and Russian Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov, both sides agreed to suspend hostilities to permit safe passage for residents facing severe shortages of food and essential supplies. Statements from the First Lady's office noted that she acted as a "sole mediator" between Ukrainian and Russian leadership to establish the terms of the agreement.
