Slovenian football figures reflect on career paths and domestic derby dynamics

Aleš Čeh and Jan Mlakar discuss their career paths, coaching experiences, and the dynamics of Slovenian football derbies.
Former Slovenian national team captain Aleš Čeh and forward Jan Mlakar have shared insights into their career trajectories and the current state of Slovenian football.
Čeh, who served as assistant coach to Srečko Katanec for over a decade—including a seven-year stint in Asia—reaffirmed his affection for former clubs Olimpija Ljubljana and Grazer AK, while expressing respect for rivals NK Maribor. Meanwhile, 27-year-old Ljubljana native Mlakar has returned to Maribor for a third spell, aiming to secure his first league title with the club. Mlakar, who trusts Maribor’s leadership, noted that despite Olimpija’s recent struggles, form carries little weight in derby matches as underdogs "can only gain."
