Scholar Alpo Rusi has outlined Soviet KGB pressure against former Finnish Prime Minister Keijo Liinamaa during the late Cold War period.

Political science scholar Alpo Rusi has provided new details regarding Soviet intelligence operations targeting former Finnish Prime Minister Keijo Liinamaa during the late 1970s and early 1980s. Writing in Iltalehti, Rusi outlined how KGB operatives exerted covert pressure on Liinamaa, who also served as Finland's national conciliator. The threats were part of Moscow's broader strategy to manipulate Finnish labor market negotiations and domestic politics during the declining years of President Urho Kekkonen's tenure.

Prior to his unexpected death in December 1980, Liinamaa reportedly disclosed these covert actions to foreign diplomatic contacts. Rusi's historical account sheds light on the extent of Soviet intervention aimed at influencing political succession and national policy in Cold War Finland.
