Scholar Alpo Rusi details KGB operations in Finland during the late Cold War, focusing on threats against former Prime Minister Keijo Liinamaa.

Political science scholar Alpo Rusi has detailed historical KGB covert operations in Finland aimed at influencing the country's political leadership transition during the late 1970s and early 1980s. Writing for Iltalehti, Rusi highlighted threats directed at Keijo Liinamaa, a former Finnish prime minister and national conciliator, prior to his death in December 1980.

According to the analysis, Soviet intelligence networks sought to exploit domestic industrial labor disputes mediated by Liinamaa to destabilize Finnish governance. The pressure aimed to shape the political landscape as long-serving President Urho Kekkonen approached the end of his tenure. Rusi's account sheds further light on the extent of Soviet covert interference in Finnish domestic politics during the late Cold War period.
