Russian and Ukrainian strikes continue as US envoys begin peace talks

Cross-border attacks between Russia and Ukraine persisted despite ongoing diplomatic discussions and assertions of a temporary pause in targeting major capitals and energy infrastructure. Russian drone and missile strikes hit several Ukrainian regions, including Kherson and Zaporizhzhia, resulting in civilian casualties. Simultaneously, Ukrainian forces reportedly struck another Russian oil refinery along with locations in Sochi and Belgorod.

The military actions coincided with visits by U.S. envoys to Moscow and Kyiv to discuss peace proposals, alongside Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's scheduled trip to New York for the United Nations General Assembly. While U.S. President Donald Trump claimed both nations agreed to refrain from hitting energy facilities, Zelenskyy stated Ukraine would halt such strikes only if Western allies ensure Moscow refrains from targeting Ukrainian energy, food, and supply routes.
