Russia launches deadly strikes across Ukraine as Kyiv targets Lukoil refinery
Russia launched widespread drone and missile strikes on Ukrainian infrastructure, while Ukraine struck a Russian refinery amid diplomatic developments in Europe.
Russian strikes hit multiple Ukrainian regions, including Kyiv, Odesa, Chernihiv, and Kryvyi Rih, causing extensive civilian casualties. A strike on a commercial venue in Kryvyi Rih killed at least 15 people and wounded over 130, prompting EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas to denounce the assault. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky requested UN Secretary-General António Guterres to "do everything to stop the war".
Simultaneously, Ukrainian forces targeted a major Lukoil oil refinery inside Russia using drones. Despite the intensified combat, Russian officials reported that talks regarding a prisoner exchange are still ongoing.
On the diplomatic front, Italy reaffirmed its decision not to send troops or participate in upcoming multinational maneuvers in Ukraine set for October, following recent authorization from Britain and France for local production of Scalp cruise missiles.
