Russia and Ukraine trade strikes as Trump claims consensus on energy pause
Cross-border attacks persist between Russia and Ukraine despite talks of an energy strike pause and scheduled visits by U.S. peace envoys.
Former U.S. President Donald Trump claimed that Russia and Ukraine agreed to cease targeting each other's energy infrastructure. However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that Kyiv would only halt such attacks if Western partners guarantee that Moscow refrains from striking energy facilities and food supply routes.
The statements come amidst ongoing cross-border military actions. Despite commitments to pause strikes on Kyiv and Moscow during upcoming visits by U.S. envoys, fighting persisted across several provinces. Russian bombardments resulted in civilian casualties in Kherson and Zaporizhzhia, while Ukrainian drone strikes hit a Russian oil refinery and targeted sites in Sochi and Belgorod. Meanwhile, Zelenskyy is traveling to New York for the United Nations General Assembly following a decree dismissing Ukraine's prosecutor general.
