Russia and Ukraine exchange strikes ahead of diplomatic talks

Cross-border strikes between Russian and Ukrainian forces persisted overnight despite reported diplomatic efforts to halt attacks on critical infrastructure. The escalation coincides with former US President Donald Trump's assertion that both nations had agreed to refrain from targeting energy facilities. However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky specified that Ukraine's participation depends on Western allies ensuring Russia similarly stops attacking energy sites, civilian infrastructure, and food supply routes. Meanwhile, European Union officials condemned a recent strike near the Polish border, framing it as an effort to divide and intimidate European partners.
