Portugal's parliament defeated a censure motion brought by the far-right Chega party against the minority government, as the main opposition Socialist Party abstained.

Portugal's parliament has defeated a motion of censure presented by the far-right Chega party targeting the minority Democratic Alliance government.

The proposal, which sought to challenge the executive's political authority following recent controversies involving the Minister of Internal Administration, failed after a three-hour parliamentary debate. The governing center-right coalition voted against the initiative, while the primary opposition Socialist Party abstained, guaranteeing its rejection.

Government representatives criticized Chega for forcing a vote on a measure destined to fail. Minister of the Presidency António Leitão Amaro stated that the public would render a "political judgment" on Chega's parliamentary tactics, while reiterating that the administration continues to govern without a permanent preferred partner in parliament.
