Portugal’s minority government has survived a motion of no confidence introduced by the far-right Chega party. The motion was defeated after members of the governing coalition voted against it while the main opposition Socialist Party abstained.

During the parliamentary debate, Minister of the Presidency António Leitão Amaro rejected claims that the government was politically weakened, asserting that the executive will continue to govern without a "preferential partner" in parliament. Leitão Amaro directed sharp criticism at both Chega and the Socialists, adding that Chega’s choice to trigger a vote destined to fail would face a "political judgment" from voters.

While the rejection of the censure measure keeps the executive in office, the minority administration remains subject to tight legislative oversight from opposition parties.
