Portugal's minority government defeated a motion of censure brought by the far-right Chega party on Tuesday after the opposition Socialist Party abstained.

Portugal's minority government survived a motion of censure in parliament on Tuesday following a three-hour debate initiated by the far-right Chega party.

The motion, titled "For the end of a Government without political authority," focused on recent controversies surrounding the Internal Administration Ministry. As expected, the ruling Democratic Alliance coalition voted against the measure, while the main opposition Socialist Party abstained, securing the government's survival.

Closing the debate, Minister of the Presidency António Leitão Amaro criticized Chega for forcing a vote destined to fail. He stated that voters would render a "political judgment" on the party's tactics, while reiterating that the administration maintains no "preferential partner" in parliament.
