Portugal's minority government has survived a censure motion brought by the far-right Chega party after the main opposition Socialist Party abstained.

Portugal's minority government has defeated a censure motion introduced by the far-right Chega party following a parliamentary debate lasting over three hours. The governing coalition voted against the proposal while the main opposition Socialist Party abstained, ensuring the motion's defeat.

Chega submitted the measure following recent controversies involving internal administration officials. During the debate, Minister of the Presidency António Leitão Amaro rejected assertions that the executive was politically weakened, stating the administration will continue governing without a "preferential partner" in parliament. Leitão Amaro criticized both Chega and the Socialists, suggesting voters would render a "political judgment" on Chega for filing a measure destined to fail.

Although the executive remains in office, the minority administration faces ongoing legislative pressure from opposition parties.
