Portugal's Left Bloc urged guaranteed abortion access in public hospitals following local service disruptions, alongside reports on domestic violence and Atlantic migration trends.

Portugal's Left Bloc has submitted a parliamentary resolution urging the government to guarantee timely access to legal abortion services within the public health network. The proposal follows claims by local user committees that Garcia de Orta Hospital discontinued pregnancy terminations, though local health authorities described the interruption as temporary.

Concurrently, national reports highlight ongoing domestic abuse concerns in Portugal, with authorities recording more than 14,000 complaints, averaging 82 incidents daily. Meanwhile, eight Afghan women marked one year of resettlement in Portugal after escaping Taliban restrictions on female education and employment.

On international developments, the International Organization for Migration reported a 78 percent decline in arrivals via the West African Atlantic route during early 2026, crediting strengthened border management between Senegal and Mauritania.
