A standoff in Portadown continues after counter-protesters blocked a restricted Orange Order march from passing through Garvaghy Road.

Tensions remain elevated in Portadown after thousands of counter-protesters blocked a restricted Orange Order parade from traversing Garvaghy Road on Sunday. A late-night High Court ruling had upheld a Parades Commission determination permitting 35 members to conduct a silent procession along the historically contentious route for the first time since the late 1990s.

Police intervened to prevent the marchers from advancing from Drumcree Church as large crowds assembled along the predominantly nationalist thoroughfare. Senior politicians, including Northern Ireland First Minister Michelle O'Neill, joined the demonstration. Although the designated time window for the march elapsed, both groups remained present as community leaders and authorities sought to resolve the standoff at the long-standing flashpoint.
