An unprecedented late-night ruling by the High Court in Belfast had upheld a Parades Commission decision allowing a restricted silent march of 35 participants past the predominantly nationalist area for the first time in nearly 30 years.
However, officers halted the procession near Drumcree Church after crowds gathered along the route, joined by figures such as Northern Ireland First Minister Michelle O'Neill. The designated timeframe for the parade lapsed while marchers remained at their starting position, prompting community representatives and officials to hold talks aimed at resolving the standoff at the historic flashpoint.
