Serbians turn out in record numbers as youth movement mounts historic challenge to Vučić
Serbians voted in large numbers in a snap election presenting the strongest challenge to President Aleksandar Vučić's ruling party since 2012.
Serbians voted in large numbers on Sunday in a snap parliamentary election that poses the most significant challenge to President Aleksandar Vučić and his ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) since 2012.
The vote follows nearly two years of widespread demonstrations led by student activists, initially sparked by the deadly collapse of a railway station canopy in Novi Sad. Shifting from street protests to direct political engagement, the youth movement fielded candidates to challenge the long-standing administration through the ballot box.
Political analysts view the contest as the most unpredictable election in over a decade. However, youth organizers and election monitors expressed deep concerns regarding potential vote-rigging and ballot tampering by the ruling party to secure power.
