French emergency services have contained key wildfires across southern France, though high-risk access restrictions remain in Var and reconstruction plans are scheduled for Gironde.

French emergency services have contained several major wildfires across southern France, though crews remain on alert. In the Aude department, a 100-hectare blaze near Montséret has been contained, allowing local authorities to lift confinement orders for residents in neighboring Saint-André-de-Roquelongue. Nearby in Puilaurens, a fire spanning 225 hectares has stabilized, though emergency services note active hotspots persist in hard-to-reach terrain.

Meanwhile, fires in the Drôme and Gironde regions are no longer advancing, and the blaze in Var has been extinguished. Despite this progress, Var authorities have barred public access to seven forest massifs due to lingering extreme fire danger. Nationwide, wildfires have destroyed more than 115,000 hectares this year. Armed Forces Minister Sébastien Lecornu is scheduled to visit Gironde on 17 August to launch regional reconstruction efforts.
