Relative calm has returned to France following night-time curfews and restrictions, as the EU investigates potential pro-Russian disinformation surrounding the cost-of-living riots.

Relative calm returned to France after a weekend of widespread cost-of-living unrest that resulted in nearly 2,400 detentions nationwide, including more than 1,000 in Paris. Violent clashes left dozens of police officers injured, alongside extensive property damage, looted shops, and impacted historic sites.

In response, French authorities introduced night-time curfews in parts of Paris and other municipalities. President Emmanuel Macron urged local officials to prohibit unauthorized weekend demonstrations, though trade union gatherings remain permitted in most areas. Lyon enacted a complete ban on public assemblies.

Concurrently, European Union regulators initiated an investigation into alleged foreign online disinformation. Security officials are examining whether pro-Russian and far-right accounts intentionally disseminated footage of the unrest to provoke broader European instability.
