French authorities are deploying military forces and promising legal action after nationwide protests over living costs left one dead and nearly 2,000 arrested.

French President Emmanuel Macron has strongly condemned nationwide unrest following weekend demonstrations that resulted in one death, approximately 1,000 injured police officers, and around 2,000 arrests. In a public address, Macron vowed that perpetrators of vandalism and looting would face legal and financial consequences, stating that "those who destroyed must pay." While acknowledging peaceful protesters' grievances over living costs and educational reforms, officials blamed extremist elements for inciting clashes.

To prevent further unrest during upcoming weekend demonstrations, French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez announced a massive security response, including the deployment of military personnel.
