French President Emmanuel Macron condemned violent nationwide protests over living costs, promising strict legal action after clashes left one person dead and nearly 2,000 arrested.

Following nationwide demonstrations over rising living costs and educational conditions, French President Emmanuel Macron addressed the nation to condemn widespread unrest. The protests, which drew over 500,000 people across France, escalated into severe clashes that resulted in one death in Paris, approximately 1,000 injured police officers, and around 2,000 arrests.

In his address, Macron emphasized that "nothing justifies this violence" while separating peaceful demonstrators with economic concerns from those responsible for looting and vandalism. He promised swift judicial measures against perpetrators, asserting that those who caused destruction must pay for damages and return stolen property. French officials pointed to extremist groups for instigating the violence as law enforcement works to restore order.
