European leaders at the MED9 summit in Split discussed defense, energy security, and political stability in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

European Union leaders and regional officials gathered in Split for the MED9 summit to address security challenges, migration, and economic competitiveness across the Mediterranean. Discussions focused on reinforcing European and national defense capabilities, safeguarding cohesion funding, and managing energy price volatility stemming from conflict in the Middle East.

Addressing the broader institutional challenges facing the bloc, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen cautioned that "our systems were created for a different world," underscoring the need for structural adaptation.

On the sidelines, Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković met with von der Leyen to discuss energy security and political stability in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Plenković emphasized the necessity of electoral reform to secure equal representation for all three constituent peoples.
