European leaders at the MED9 summit in Split discussed economic competitiveness, energy price caps, and electoral reform in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Discussions at the EU MED9 summit in Split focused on strengthening European economic competitiveness and navigating regional security pressures. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen highlighted the need for institutional adaptation and regulatory simplification, arguing that existing systems were built for a different era.

In bilateral talks, Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković outlined national energy interventions, including price caps on electricity, gas, and fuel, intended to protect citizens and businesses from market instability driven by Middle East tension. Plenković also emphasized the necessity of electoral reform in neighboring Bosnia and Herzegovina to ensure equal political representation for all constituent peoples, specifically regarding the Croat seat in the presidency. Meanwhile, security analysts assessed European defense posture in light of recent attacks on Black Sea shipping.
