New EU rules link Ukrainian protection to military service as Czech officials navigate domestic debates over Kyiv visits and labor market enforcement.

New EU regulations extending temporary protection for displaced Ukrainians until March 2028 have come into effect, incorporating provisions linking residency rights to military service obligations.

In the Czech Republic, authorities are addressing labor market fraud through the police unit Kobra 26, which is investigating agency employment chains and undeclared work. Officials caution that tax evasion surrounding foreign labor could cost the state billions of korunas.

Meanwhile, official travel to Ukraine has stirred political friction in Prague. Deputy Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies Barbora Urbanová visited Kyiv following an unapproved request to parliament's organizational committee, a rejection Speaker Tomio Okamura claimed was not politically motivated. Concurrently, Chief of General Staff Miroslav Hlaváč is awaiting defense ministry authorization to attend an upcoming security conference in Ukraine.
