New EU rules condition temporary protection for Ukrainians on military service, while Czech authorities manage domestic integration fraud and disputed official trips to Kyiv.

New European Union rules extending temporary protection for displaced Ukrainians until March 2028 have taken effect, conditioning residency on fulfilling military duties to Kyiv.

In the Czech Republic, authorities are addressing domestic integration challenges. Specialized police unit Kobra 26 is targeting tax evasion and unregistered staffing agencies that officials say cost the state billions of korunas each year.

Concurrently, official trips to Ukraine are causing political friction in Prague. Deputy Parliamentary Speaker Barbora Urbanová met Ukrainian counterpart Olena Kondratyuk in Kyiv despite a previous rejection from the Czech parliamentary organizing committee. Meanwhile, Chief of the General Staff Miroslav Hlaváč awaits Defense Ministry approval to attend an upcoming high-level military summit in Ukraine.
