The European Union extended sanctions against Russia following a missile strike near the Polish border, even as US President Donald Trump claimed a deal to halt attacks on energy targets.

The European Union has extended its sanctions against Russia following a missile strike on a train near the Ukrainian-Polish border. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas and French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot condemned the action, stating the attack aimed to intimidate European nations and create internal divisions.

The diplomatic push comes as US President Donald Trump claimed both Moscow and Kyiv agreed to cease strikes against energy infrastructure. Despite these reported assurances, battlefield violence persists. Ukrainian authorities reported two fatalities and 14 injuries from Russian shelling in the Kherson region. Concurrently, Ukrainian drone attacks injured seven people in Russia's Belgorod and Sochi regions. Domestically, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed an official decree dismissing the country's prosecutor general.
