EU extends sanctions on Russia as cross-border strikes persist

The EU extended sanctions on Russia following a border-area missile strike, while regional shelling and drone attacks continued despite claims of an energy strike pause.
The European Union has extended sanctions against Russia following a missile attack on a train near the Ukrainian border. EU diplomacy chief Kaja Kallas and French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot condemned the strike, describing it as an attempt to intimidate European allies and sow division.
Despite claims by US President Donald Trump that Moscow and Kyiv had agreed to pause strikes on energy infrastructure, military engagements remain ongoing. Shelling in Ukraine's Kherson region killed two people and wounded 14 others. Meanwhile, drone attacks across Russia's Sochi and Belgorod regions injured seven people.
In Kyiv, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky issued a decree formally dismissing the country's prosecutor general.
