EU extends Russia sanctions following border train attack and ongoing strikes

The EU extended sanctions on Russia after a border train attack, while cross-border strikes persisted despite claims of an energy ceasefire.
The European Union has prolonged its sanctions against Russia following a missile strike on a train near the Ukrainian-Polish border. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas and French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot condemned the incident, stating the attack aimed to intimidate European partners and create domestic discord.
Despite statements from US President Donald Trump indicating both nations had agreed to halt strikes on energy infrastructure, active combat persists across the region. Recent shelling in Ukraine's Kherson territory resulted in two fatalities and 14 injuries, while Ukrainian drone strikes in Russia's Belgorod and Sochi regions left seven people wounded.
In Kyiv, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a formal decree removing the country's prosecutor general from office amid the ongoing conflict.
