The EU has extended sanctions against Russia following a border strike, while US President Donald Trump claimed a bilateral deal was reached regarding energy infrastructure.

The European Union has prolonged its sanction regime against Moscow following a Russian strike near the Polish-Ukrainian border. EU High Representative Kaja Kallas and French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot condemned the attack on a train near the frontier, stating it was intended to intimidate European allies and sow division.

The diplomatic development comes alongside claims by US President Donald Trump that Russia and Ukraine reached an agreement to refrain from targeting energy infrastructure. However, intense military operations persist. Local officials reported two fatalities and 14 injuries from shelling in Kherson, alongside seven casualties caused by drone strikes in Russia's Belgorod region and Sochi. Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky formally dismissed the country's prosecutor general by executive decree.
