EU extends Russia sanctions following border train attack

The EU extended sanctions against Russia after a train attack near Poland, while fighting continued in Kherson, Belgorod, and Sochi.
The European Union has officially extended its sanctions against Russia following a Russian attack on a train near the Ukrainian-Polish border. EU diplomatic chief Kaja Kallas and French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot condemned the strike, stating it was designed to intimidate European nations and create internal divisions.
The diplomatic escalation comes amid ongoing fighting across several regions, despite claims by US President Donald Trump that both nations had agreed to halt attacks on energy infrastructure. Ukrainian officials reported two fatalities and 14 injuries from Russian shelling in Kherson. Meanwhile, Ukrainian drone strikes in Russia's Belgorod region and the coastal city of Sochi reportedly injured seven people. In Kyiv, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree dismissing the country's prosecutor general.
