European officials condemned a Russian strike near the Polish border as the EU extended sanctions against Moscow, while fighting produced casualties in Ukraine and Russia.

As military hostilities entered their 1,663rd day, European officials strongly condemned a Russian attack on a train operating near the Ukrainian-Polish border. European Union diplomacy chief Kaja Kallas and French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot stated the strike was designed to intimidate European allies and foster division. In response to ongoing aggression, the EU officially extended its existing sanctions regime against Russia.

Meanwhile, combat operations continued across multiple fronts. Ukrainian local authorities reported two deaths and 14 injuries from shelling in the Kherson region. Conversely, Ukrainian drone strikes in Russia's Belgorod region and the coastal city of Sochi resulted in seven casualties. Additionally, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed an official decree dismissing the country's prosecutor general.
