EU extends Russia sanctions as regional strikes and diplomatic tensions persist

The EU extended sanctions against Russia as officials condemned a border train strike, while casualties were reported from attacks in Kherson, Belgorod, and Sochi.
The European Union has extended its sanctions against Russia amid ongoing military actions and heightened diplomatic tensions. EU Foreign Policy Chief Kaja Kallas and French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot stated that a Russian attack on a train near the Ukrainian-Polish border was intended to intimidate European nations and create division.
Simultaneously, active fighting continues to result in casualties on both sides. Local Ukrainian authorities reported two deaths and 14 injuries caused by Russian shelling in the Kherson region. In turn, Ukrainian drone strikes reportedly injured seven people in Russia's Belgorod region and the coastal city of Sochi. In Kyiv, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky officially dismissed the prosecutor general by decree.
