EU extends Russia sanctions as cross-border strikes continue despite energy deal claims

The EU extended sanctions against Russia following a train strike, while claims of an energy cease-fire emerge amid ongoing casualties in Ukraine and Russia.
U.S. President Donald Trump claimed that Russia and Ukraine have agreed to refrain from targeting each other's energy infrastructure, though hostilities persist across several fronts.
In southern Ukraine, Russian shelling in the Kherson region killed two people and wounded 14 others. Meanwhile, Russian officials reported seven casualties from Ukrainian drone attacks targeting the Belgorod region and the Black Sea resort city of Sochi.
Diplomatically, European Union leadership extended sanctions against Moscow following a Russian strike on a train near the Ukrainian border with Poland. EU High Representative Kaja Kallas and French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot condemned the incident, stating it was designed to intimidate European nations and foster division.
Additionally, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree officially dismissing the nation's prosecutor general.
