Cross-border strikes persist as US envoys arrive for peace talks

Cross-border attacks between Russian and Ukrainian forces continued overnight despite diplomatic engagements involving US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. Attacks across several Ukrainian regions resulted in at least one death and ten injuries, including a 74-year-old man killed by a drone in Zaporizhzhia. Drone strikes were also reported in Russia's Belgorod region and Sochi.

The strikes coincided with reports that Ukrainian front-line units received orders for a four-day operational pause. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump announced that both nations agreed to refrain from targeting energy infrastructure. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky specified that Kyiv would comply only if Western partners guarantee Russia also ceases attacks on energy sites, supply routes, and logistics.

Additionally, European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas and French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot condemned a Russian strike on a train near the Ukrainian-Polish border, describing it as an attempt to intimidate European allies.
