Cross-border strikes continue despite reported operational pause and US peace envoy visits

Cross-border attacks between Ukrainian and Russian forces persisted overnight, resulting in civilian casualties despite diplomatic efforts and a reported pause in combat operations. Ukrainian emergency services reported at least one death and ten injuries from Russian strikes, including a fatal drone attack in Zaporizhzhia. Meanwhile, drone strikes were also reported in Russia's Belgorod region and Sochi.

The continued hostilities occur alongside reported four-day operational hold orders given to Ukrainian frontline units. The temporary halt coincides with visits by US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Moscow and Kyiv to discuss potential peace plans.

Additionally, European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas and French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot condemned a recent Russian strike on a train near the Ukrainian-Polish border, characterising it as an attempt to divide and intimidate European nations.
