Global militaries are rapidly accelerating the deployment of artificial intelligence and automated systems across modern combat operations.

Global militaries and defense tech firms are rapidly accelerating the deployment of artificial intelligence and automated systems in combat. Former Google executive Eric Schmidt described the Ukrainian theater as the center of a historic revolution in warfare, characterized by autonomous software and drone deployment. Ukrainian officials have similarly framed the conflict as an intense technological contest requiring rapid, continuous development cycles.

Technological proliferation is also evident in adversarial and international applications. Ukrainian intelligence recently identified a United States-manufactured microcomputer inside a new Russian missile, indicating artificial intelligence guidance capabilities. Simultaneously, private sector boundaries remain influential, with SpaceX continuing restrictions on Starlink for cross-border Ukrainian strikes. In Asia, China's armed forces have integrated dedicated artificial intelligence tools to orchestrate and plan large-scale, simultaneous aerial strikes.
