US and Iran trade warnings as talks on Strait of Hormuz continue
Washington and Tehran trade warnings over the Strait of Hormuz as discussions continue regarding sanctions, safe navigation, and potential military action.
Tensions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz remain elevated as the United States and Iran put forward competing conditions for reopening the strategic waterway. US President Donald Trump stated that discussions are progressing and suggested the corridor could reopen "very soon," while warning that Iran faces severe military repercussions if a resolution fails to materialize.
Meanwhile, Iranian authorities insist the passage will remain closed until Washington lifts economic sanctions on oil, releases frozen assets, and halts regional military actions. Although Tehran confirmed reaching an agreement with Oman regarding a safe maritime navigation route, Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps commanders announced updates to their defense doctrine, warning of "strategic surprises" if confrontation escalates.
