Polish military experts call for structural reforms alongside record defense spending
Polish think tanks urge structural and procurement reforms as defense spending reaches a projected 4.81 percent of GDP by 2026.
Polish military experts and think tanks are calling for sweeping structural reforms to accompany the country's record defense spending, which is projected to reach 4.81 percent of GDP, or 200.1 billion zlotys, by 2026.
While Warsaw has secured high-profile procurement deals for F-35 fighter jets, Abrams tanks, and HIMARS missile launchers, analysts argue that hardware alone cannot guarantee national security. Think tanks including Rozwój Plus and the Defence Institute warn that Poland's defense framework faces "strategic drift." They stress the need to overhaul mobilization protocols, reform procurement processes, upgrade command structures, and improve troop retention.
Experts emphasize that institutional modernization is essential to ensure the armed forces can withstand an initial attack and deter potential regional aggression from Russia.
