EU extends Russia sanctions following border train strike as fighting persists
The EU extended sanctions against Russia after a border train strike, while casualties were reported in Kherson, Belgorod, and Sochi amidst ongoing fighting.
The European Union has extended sanctions against Russia after a missile hit a train close to the Ukrainian-Polish border. EU High Representative Kaja Kallas and French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot condemned the strike, stating it aimed to intimidate and divide European nations.
Meanwhile, military engagements continued across the region. Russian shelling in Ukraine's Kherson region killed two individuals and injured 14 others. In turn, Russian officials reported seven casualties from Ukrainian drone attacks targeting Sochi and the Belgorod region.
The ongoing clashes come despite statements from U.S. President Donald Trump claiming that Kyiv and Moscow had agreed to pause strikes against energy infrastructure. Additionally, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky officially removed the country's prosecutor general from office by decree.
