Former Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has urged Kyiv to prepare technically for post-war elections despite ongoing martial law restrictions.

Former Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has publicly urged officials in Kyiv to begin technical groundwork for post-war national elections. Fedorov, who was dismissed from office by President Volodymyr Zelensky in July, stressed that administrative and logistical planning must start ahead of time to handle complex voting challenges, including accommodating frontline soldiers, internally displaced populations, and millions of overseas refugees.

Under Ukrainian law, national elections remain strictly prohibited while martial law is enforced across the country. However, Fedorov argued that preparing technical frameworks in advance will ensure a smooth democratic transition whenever security conditions allow voting to resume. The Ukrainian government has not indicated any immediate intention to lift martial law or alter electoral restrictions.
