EU and China agree to cap Chinese hybrid vehicle imports at 350,000 per year
The EU and China have agreed to cap imports of Chinese hybrid vehicles at 350,000 annually for four years, cutting expected import volumes by more than half.
The European Union and China have reached an agreement to cap imports of Chinese-made hybrid vehicles into the EU at 350,000 units annually starting in January. The four-year deal was negotiated in Beijing by EU Trade Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič and Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao.
According to EU officials, the threshold will reduce projected hybrid imports into the bloc by more than half. The cap follows earlier tariffs imposed by Brussels on Chinese electric vehicles, which had prompted manufacturers in China to increase exports of hybrid models to the European market. European policymakers raised concerns that low-cost imports could displace domestic manufacturers.
