EU extends Russia sanctions as regional fighting continues
The EU has extended sanctions against Russia following a border-region missile strike, as fighting continues in Kherson, Belgorod, and Sochi.
The European Union has formally extended its sanctions against Russia following a missile strike on a train near the Ukrainian-Polish border. EU diplomacy chief Kaja Kallas and French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot condemned the attack, stating it aimed to intimidate European nations and foster internal division.
The diplomatic measure comes amid continued hostilities across multiple regions. Ukrainian officials reported two deaths and 14 injuries from Russian shelling in Kherson, while Ukrainian drone strikes reportedly injured seven people across Sochi and Russia's Belgorod region.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree dismissing the country's prosecutor general. The move follows claims by US President Donald Trump that Moscow and Kyiv had agreed to pause strikes against energy infrastructure.
