Trump claims Russia and Ukraine agreed to pause energy strikes as EU extends sanctions
U.S. President Donald Trump announced a mutual pause on energy infrastructure strikes between Russia and Ukraine as the EU extended sanctions against Moscow.
U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Russia and Ukraine have agreed to a temporary halt on strikes targeting mutual energy infrastructure, despite ongoing combat across multiple fronts. Ukrainian officials reported two deaths and 14 injuries from Russian artillery shelling in the Kherson region, while Ukrainian drone strikes reportedly injured seven people in Russia's Belgorod region and Sochi.
Concurrently, the European Union extended its sanctions framework against Russia. EU diplomatic chief Kaja Kallas and French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot condemned a recent Russian attack on a train near the Polish border, calling it an attempt to intimidate Europeans. In domestic political developments, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky formally dismissed the country's prosecutor general via decree.
