US envoys conduct peace talks as regional strikes persist across Ukraine and Russia
US envoys arrived in Kyiv and Moscow for peace talks as regional strikes continued despite reported pauses and energy deal discussions.
US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner arrived in Kyiv and Moscow to advance peace negotiations, coinciding with reports that Ukrainian troops received orders for a four-day operational pause.
While US President Donald Trump announced that both sides agreed to cease targeting energy infrastructure, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated Kyiv's participation depends on Western guarantees that Moscow will refrain from striking energy targets, infrastructure, and supply routes.
Although both nations agreed to refrain from targeting capital cities during high-level visits, regional combat continued. Fatalities and injuries were reported across Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, Belgorod, and Sochi. Meanwhile, European Union officials described a Russian strike near the Polish border as an attempt at intimidation, and Zelensky issued a decree removing Ukraine's prosecutor general.
